About the event
Your Facilitator
Mykah Smith is Bahamian native who began her journey into mindfulness in 2014. While struggling to survive traumatic grief and suicidal ideation, she began to see a counselor. Her therapist suggested trying Mindfulness Based Stress reduction as well as Mindfulness based CBT (Cognitive behavioral therapy). Through these practices she began to see her way through the darkness. That same year she began to practice yoga asana (postures) consistently. The healing she found in these practices inspired her to pursue her masters in Developmental and Child Psychology with a concentration in Mindfulness based interventions. After obtaining her masters in July 2018 from Lee University, she further pursued her passion for mindful healing by obtaining her yoga teacher certification in December 2018 and is currently registered with Yoga Alliance. To date she has completed over 70 hours of continued educational training in Rocket Yoga, Prenatal & Postpardum Yoga, Sequencing & Anatomy, Hatha, Tantra & Vinyasa. She has also led over 2,000 hours of meditation, breathwork and yoga classes and workshops.
Mykah has long had a deep passion and affinity for health and wellness, particuallary herbalism. The Bahamas has a rich history of traditional medicine and in 2018 Mykah began a two year apprentiship under her grandmother to learn the teachings and practices of traditional Bahamain Herbal Medicine. In 2019 she completed serveral phytochemical and botinist courses to becoem a certifired herbalsit. In 2020, just before the pandemic, Mykah began The Last Island Gal brand. She provides Bahamian inspired earth-based healing tools for all. She loves all things health and wellness and is always exploring new avenues to live a healthier, more meaningingful and peaceful life.
